: Young and old female BALB/c mice were purchased from Beijing Vital River Laboratory Animal Technology Co., Ltd. Female golden (Syrian) hamsters at 4–5 weeks old were obtained from Wuhan Institute of Biological Products Co. Ltd. All the mice and hamsters were cared following the recommendations of National Institutes of Health Guidelines for the Care and Use of Experimental Animals. Studies related to virus infection were performed in biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) facility at Wuhan Institute of Virology following animal ethics protocol (Permit number: WIVA26202108).
