Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The SMRI brain bank provided all postmortem samples used in this study. Postmortem samples collected from deceased individuals do not fall under the category of human subjects research under DHHS and FDA regulations and accordingly the Johns Hopkins Institutional Review Board approved our exemption request (IRB 05-07-14-04e). The description of how SMRI collected the samples and obtained consent is described in detail elsewhere []. The collection and use of the samples adhered to all federal, local and institutional regulations and laws.
