The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) Ethics Review Board approved NHANES project, and all participants provided written informed consents. The approvals for the NHANES protocols for the periods 1999-2004 and 2011-2014 were obtained separately and can be accessed on the NHANES website (). Since NHANES data are de-identified and anonymised during analysis, conducting secondary analyses on the data did not require additional ethical approval or informed consent.
