Ethics declaration
: There is no conflict of interest to be declared. As per the NHS HRA decision tool, this project was not considered as research and as such, ethical approval was not required. The study was a service evaluation to assess reasons for mouthcare advice from healthcare professionals for hospitalised patients and was approved by the SCFT Clinical Governance groups – formal approval from an ethics committee was not required. All participants verbally consented to take part and were given the opportunity to refuse participation.
