Ethics declaration
: The authors declare no conflicts of interest. Ethical approval was granted by Essex, East of England, National Health Service Research Ethics Committee (IRAS 221512). Clinic-level consent was also approved by the ethics committee. Clinic-level consent operates at a service level without the need for individual written consent to include anonymised data for research purposes. Patients could choose to opt-out of clinic level consent, meaning their data would not contribute to the study; however, all patients were still offered HIV POCT as part of their standard care. The approach is General Data Protection Regulation compliant. Patients provided informed consent for testing and completion of the questionnaire implied consent.
