: Ethical approval was obtained for the use of FFPE HCC patient biopsies (study reference 116370) by the National Research Ethics Service (NRES) Committee North East (12/NE/0395) sponsored by NUTH Trust R&D (Ref: 6579). All patients had provided written consent for use of their tissues for research purposes.
