: Study approval. All animal experiments were reviewed and approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of Guangdong Medical University (approval PJ2020-077). Patients with sepsis or septic shock who were admitted to the ICU of the Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical University from October 2020 to September 2021 (in line with the 3th. international consensus definition of septic shock and sepsis) and healthy donors of the physical examination center were recruited. The selection criteria were as follows: patients were over 18 years old and the patients or legal representatives were able to sign ethical informed consent forms. The collection of PBMCs of healthy or Patients complied with all relevant ethical regulations and was approved by the Human Ethics Committee of Guangdong Medical University. This trial was registered in clinicaltrials (ClinicalTrials. gov identifier ChiCTR2000039545).
