: For the Danish participants, anonymized buffy coats were used in accordance with Danish legislation and all donors provided written informed consent for the use of surplus material from their donation. This procedure of using an anonymous donor with consent has been approved by the Danish Ministry of Health and the Regional Ethics Committee of Southern Denmark. For the Portuguese participants, the study using anonymized buffy coats was reviewed and approved by the Centro Hospitalar Universitário São João Ethics Committee, protocol 90/19.
