Catch permits were requested and obtained from: Switzerland, Canton Tessin – Ufficio Federale dell’Ambiente (permits 30 October 2017, 28 May 2018 and updates to 2023). Then, transport of live crayfish permits was asked to the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) - Water Division (BAFU 417.511.11–832: 28 May 2018, 02 March 2023). No formal AVMA guidelines exist for the euthanasia of decapod crustaceans. The method employed was selected based on published procedures aimed at ensuring appropriate handling and minimizing potential suffering in invertebrate research.
