As the hair samples were taken noninvasive, the study was not categorized as an animal experiment by the Animal welfare commission of the Landesamt für Landwirtschaft, Lebensmittelsicherheit und Fischerei Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Güstrow, Germany).
