: Ethics approvals were granted by the Samoan Ministry of Health and The Australian National University Human Research Ethics Committee (protocol 2018/341) and ratified by The University of Queensland Human Research Ethics Committee (2021/HE000895). The study was conducted in close collaboration with the Samoa Ministry of Health, the WHO country office in Samoa, and the Samoa Red Cross. Written informed consent was obtained from adult participants. For participants aged < 18 years, verbal assent was obtained from the child and formal written consent was obtained from a parent or guardian. All research activities were performed in accordance with the relevant guidelines and regulations.
