: Human corneal stromal cells were obtained from cornea–scleral rings remaining after removal of the central cornea for clinical transplantation, supplied by the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) Cornea Transplantation Service Eye Bank at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, UK. The study was conducted at the Biosciences Institute, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University. All human tissue was handled in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, and informed consent for research use was obtained from all donors and/or their legal guardians. Ethical approval was granted by the North East and North Tyneside 1 Research Ethics Committee (NRES) (University project reference: Ocular 19.31-corneas; July 2020), and all procedures were performed in compliance with relevant guidelines and regulations.
