: Lice samples used in this study were exclusively taken non-invasively while routine medical procedures in two authorized seal rescue stations, the Seal Centre Pieterburen (Netherlands) and Seal Centre Friedrichskoog (Germany). At Seal Centre Pieterburen, the parasites were sampled in accordance with authorization of the government of the Netherlands (permission IDs FF/75/2012/015).
