: The authors declare no competing interests.
: The majority of the study authors are based in the UK, with two co-authors (Simpson T. and Simpson D.) who live and work at Ascension Island. As permanent residence is not permitted on Ascension Island, inclusion of local authors from the island itself was not feasible. However, we acknowledge that broader representation - particularly from individuals of ethnicities commonly working on the island, such as those from Saint Helena -would have strengthened the perspectives presented. We recognise this as a limitation and are committed to adopting research approaches and processes that incorporate a more diverse range of viewpoints in future work.
