Ethics approval and consent to participate: Ethical approval was obtained from Institutional Review Board of College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Bahir Dar University (protocol no. 742/2023). Supportive letters were also obtained from the Amhara Regional Health Bureau, and the Shewa Zone health department of the Kewot District Health Office. For participants aged 15–18 years, written assent was obtained from the participants, and written informed consent was obtained from their parents or legal guardians. Results of participants were kept confidential, and study participants infected by Plasmodium species, STHs, or any other intestinal parasite were treated in the health center.
