This project was registered in ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02872974) and was approved by the Ethics Committee for Human Research of the Canton of Vaud (2016–00745). Participating mothers received appropriate information on the study and anonymous study participation and had to consent in order for them and their children to be enrolled in the study. Since only newborn infants <1 month of age were included, children’s assent was not required.
