: The authors declare that the corresponding author is the inventor of the patent for the specifically designed apparatus and the protocol used in this study (the Hydraulic Contrast Lift System and Protocol). The other authors declare no competing interests.
: Animals included in this study were not killed specifically for the research in question and were already slaughtered for the purpose of human consumption. Consent was not required while obtaining the sheep heads from the slaughterhouse as these were being sold by the slaughterhouse for the purpose of human consumption. Since the study was conducted at the main author’s practice in Montreal, the local Animal Compliance Office at McGill University confirmed that this study did not require an animal use protocol or ethics review according to the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) policy statement on the categories of invasiveness in animal experiments, as the study falls within Category of invasiveness A where an animal use protocol is not required to be approved by an institutional animal care committee [CitationRef removed, CitationRef removed].
