: All animals were bred in the animal facility of the University of Alicante. All procedures were approved by the Ethical Committee of the University of Alicante (2019/VSC/PEA/0266). Current guidelines and regulations for the use of laboratory animals (NIH, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and European Directive 2010/63/EU) were applied to maintain and handle the animals and comply with the Reporting of In Vivo Experiments guidelines of animal research in an effort to minimize their suffering and limit the number of animals used.
