: The commonly used H1 and H9 human embryonic stem cell lines were originally derived from embryos produced using in vitro fertilization for reproduction and no longer needed for this purpose, and donated through voluntary written consent for use in research. The import and use of these cells was authorized by Swiss Federal Office of Public Health after approval by the Canton of Vaud Ethics Committee (Authorization Number R-FP-S-2-0009-0000).
