: According to standard procedures for energy assessment surveys in refugee settlements, the UNHCR office in Kakuma, first, and the Refugee Settlement Committee in Kalobeyei, second, were asked for and granted permission to conduct the survey. A member of the Committee accompanied the interviewers for the entire survey duration. Each of the individual respondents granted informed consent. Respondents were selected on a geographical basis to include all three administrative units that compose the settlement and the various countries of origin of the refugees (different areas of the settlement host different nationalities). Out of 325 in-person interviews, 234 were conducted with households, 68 with small businesses and 23 with institutions. The survey questions are available in the InternalRef removed.
