: The methods for this study were granted exemption by the Indiana University Human Subjects Office (protocol #2010176960) on October 27, 2020. The exemption was granted for the following reasons: the research presented no more than minimal risk to subjects, adhered to the ethical principles outlined in the Belmont Report (autonomy/respect for persons, beneficence, and justice), and ensured that the selection of subjects was equitable. Adequate provisions were in place to maintain the confidentiality of any identifiable information and to protect participants’ privacy. Additionally, participants were provided with sufficient information to make an informed, voluntary decision about whether to participate, including an explanation that the study involved research, a description of procedures, statements of risks and benefits, and a reiteration that participation was entirely voluntary. The name and contact information of the researcher were also made available. The methods were further approved by the Scientific Research Unit at the College of Arts, University of Bisha (UB.22.11.8.ALSRU.1) on November 11, 2022.
: Informed consent for this study was obtained in written form from all participants before their involvement. Consent was collected between November 2020 and June 2023, and it was obtained by the principal investigator. The consent forms were granted an exemption by Indiana University and approved by the Scientific Research Unit at the College of Arts, University of Bisha. Participants were fully informed about the study’s purpose, which was to investigate the perspectives of native speakers of Faifi Arabic regarding the categorization and classification of subdialects within the Faifi Arabic dialect group, using perceptual dialectology techniques. They were assured that their anonymity would be strictly maintained throughout the study. Participants were informed of how their data would be utilized solely for research purposes, including the publication of anonymized findings. Additionally, participants were made aware of any potential risks associated with their participation, which were minimal, and assured that their personal information would not be disclosed. The consent also covered their voluntary participation, and they retained the right to withdraw from the study at any time without consequence.
