: This study is based on secondary data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-4 and NFHS-5), conducted by the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Ethical approval for the surveys was obtained by IIPS from an independent ethics review committee before data collection. As this study uses publicly available, de-identified data, no additional ethical approval was required. The datasets can be accessed upon request via the DHS website: .
