: Approval for the document gathering aspect of the research was obtained from the ethics committee of the University of St Andrews School of Management (ref. MN15787) on 15th October 2021. Approval for the interview aspect was obtained via an amendment to the original ethics application. Approval was obhtained on 4th August 2022. All procedures in this research were performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
: Informed consent was obtained via email from all those providing documents for the research. An information sheet and consent form were sent to all potential participants at recruitment covering information about the research, the type of documents and information being requested, how to indicate and password-protect any potentially sensitive data before sending it to us, and how these data would be protected and used. Participants who were unable to complete the consent form were asked to indicate their consent in the body of an email. Consent covered the collection and use of documentary data and the publication of identifiable extracts from documents. For the interview aspect of the research, informed consent was obtained in writing from all participants prior to their participation. Information about the purpose of the study, what participation would entail, confidentiality and how data would be protected and used was provided at least one week before interviews. Written consent covered participation, the collection of audio data, and the storage, use and publication of pseudonymised interview data.
