Ethics approval and consent to participate: All procedures performed in this study were conducted in accordance with the ethical principles of the Declaration of Helsinki, as well as the relevant institutional and national ethical standards. The study received ethical approval from the Research Ethics Committee and Animal Welfare Committee of the University of La Laguna (CEIBA) on 24 October 2025 (Reference: CEIBA2025-3671). The Committee concluded that the research, involving voluntary questionnaires and interviews with university students, fulfilled the ethical requirements for this type of study and that the participant information sheet and informed consent procedure were appropriate. The study also complied with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU 2016/679; GDPR), the Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 on Personal Data Protection and Guarantee of Digital Rights (LOPDGDD), and the ethical standards of the University of La Laguna. Consent to participate: All participants were adults (18 years of age or older) at the time of participation. Informed consent was obtained from all participants prior to their participation in the study. For the quantitative phase, participants received an information sheet at the beginning of the questionnaire describing the purpose of the research, the voluntary nature of participation, the anonymous and confidential treatment of the data, and their right to withdraw at any time without consequences. Completion of the questionnaire was considered to constitute informed consent. For the qualitative phase, all participants signed a written informed consent form before being interviewed. Participants were informed about the objectives of the study, the voluntary nature of their participation, the confidential handling of their data, the anonymous use of the information for scientific purposes, and their right to withdraw at any time without consequences.
