ETHICS APPROVAL AND CONSENT TO PARTICIPATE
: All applicable international, national, and/or institutional guidelines for animal care and use were followed. Spurdogs were studied as part of the ongoing Stock Identification of Demersal Fishes in the Eastern Marmara Sea project, and the ethics committee approval granted by the local ethics committee of Istanbul University Animal Experiments also covers the present study (Project ID: 2714; approval granted 17.04.2015). Prior to dissection, spurdogs were kept in well-aerated seawater tanks, then each specimen was anaesthetised by keeping it in seawater with a sufficient dose of MS-222 for at least one hour, and if it showed no signs of life, the specimen was measured and dissected.
