: The study does not require the Ethical approval by the committee because the fish under the study are not fall under the category of endangered species and no in vitro experimentation has been conducted.All applicable international, national and or institutional guidelines for the care and use of animals have been followed.

: (1) Results of the present study have contributed significant records for the molecular taxonomy of fish from the Hirakud dam.(2) Establishment of DNA barcode for the Hirakud dam Fishes.(3) In total, 47 specimens from 27 species belonging to 22 genera in 8 families and 7 orders were barcoded.
