Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study was approved by NHS Wales Research Ethics committee (ref: 09/WSE04/22). All participants were recruited via UK Medical Genetics clinics, word of mouth, and advertisements through 22q11.2DS charities, using protocols approved by the NHS Ethics and Research and Development committees. Informed written consent was obtained prior to recruitment from carers of the children, and the children themselves where appropriate.
