: All pancreatic tissues were collected post-mortem from client-owned dogs euthanized for clinical reasons unrelated to this study. The tissues were surplus materials obtained from unrelated, IACUC-approved studies at Michigan State University. Because no live animal procedures were performed for the purposes of this study, and the samples were derived from previously approved protocols, the Michigan State University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) determined that the use of these tissues was exempt from additional IACUC review, in accordance with institutional and national regulations. All experimental procedures involving these tissues were approved by the Washington State University Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC protocol: BAF #00814) and conducted in compliance with institutional regulations governing the use of client-owned animal samples.
