Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The fieldwork was carried out with the permission of the Fisheries Department of Zambia and under a study permit issued by the government of Zambia (SP 004478). The procedures used in this study were in line with the guidelines set by the Animal Behavior Society (Animal Behaviour, 135: I-X, 2018) regarding the treatment of animals in research and teaching. Only trained personnel handled the fish. Euthanasia of larvae followed the guidelines of the Directive 2010/63/EU. The study was carried out with the ethical approval of the ethics committee of the University of Graz (permit number 39/50/63 ex 2018/19).
