: All samples in this study were acquired under authority of USFWS permit #MB087454. <i>Calypte</i> and <i>Selasphorus</i> samples were collected in compliance with IACUC protocol #20160039, USGS Bird Banding permit #23516, and California Department of Fish and Wildlife permit #SC-006598. <i>Selasphorus rufus</i> samples were collected under the Oregon Dept of Fish and Wildlife permit #103–14, <i>Archilochus colubris</i> samples were collected under the Connecticut Dept. of Environmental Protection permit #1013003, and <i>Archilochus alexandri</i> were collected under Big Bend National Park permit and Texas Parks and Wildlife permit #SPR-0310-032.
