: Leaf samples of <i>O. lanceolata</i> were collected from adult trees with permission from the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST), under research licence number A 585, and the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) under permit number; NACOSTI/P/22/20943, for the Kenyan samples. The transfer of Ugandan samples to Kenya for genetic analysis was permitted by the Ugandan CITES scientific authority under permit number snUG005683 issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA), and phytosanitary certificate number; PC-C4VD1AMK121NC6, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF). The species sampling was conducted on government and communal lands, and the respective permission to conduct the study was granted under the respective research permits in Uganda and Kenya. However, local permission was also sought from local leaders for collecting samples on communal lands. All sample collections were undertaken in total compliance with the national guidelines for collection of wild plant species in Uganda and Kenya.
