: This study was conducted in strict accordance with the guidelines for the ethics of animal research established by the Wildlife Research Center of Kyoto University. Spilornis cheela perplexus is a legally protected species designated a natural monument of Japan and a “nationally rare species of wild fauna and flora” in the Act on Conservation of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, Japan. We obtained permission to conduct this research from the Ishigaki Ranger Office of the Ministry of Environment.
