: This study was conducted in accordance with ethical standards for research involving wild animals. All procedures involving animal handling and euthanasia followed the guidelines of the American Society of Mammalogists. Sample collection was authorized by the Brazilian environmental agency ICMBio through SISBIO permit number 68992-1, and registered in the Brazilian National System for Genetic Resource Management and Associated Traditional Knowledge (SisGen) under protocol A974BB7. The study protocol was reviewed and approved by the Commission on Ethics and Animal Use of the Federal University of Pernambuco (CEUA-UFPE), Brazil, under approval number 114/2019.
