: All animals were privately owned by commercial farms in Sicily, and all breeders provided formal declarations to include them in the study. The blood used for analyses was collected by an official veterinarian from the ASL (Local Sanitary Unit) of the Italian Ministry of Health following the recommendations of the European directive 2010/63. This work was approved by the Ethic Committee of the Department of Veterinary Sciences, University of Messina, Italy, within the project “Assessment of the metabolic nutritional and genomic status of Italian bovine breeds in relation to environmental and breeding conditions” (sentence code 19/2023).
