Ethics approval and consent to participate
: All samples were collected with permits in accordance to Annex II, Article 3 of the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty, and the regulation from the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) provided by the Chilean Antarctic Authorities (permits INACH 44/2012, 45/2016, 46/2016) and the Brazilian Antarctic Authorities through the PROANTAR and Environmental Ministry (N°21/2011 and N 20/2012), and other permits from Subsecretaria de Pesca (Chile, 04/2008, 110/2012, 2086/2014) from other locations. The permits incorporated authorization for sample collection for all locations including special authorization to the studied protected areas. A bioethics permit was provided by Universidad de Concepción and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, which was required to obtain INACH permits and Fondecyt project.
