: The two strains <i>Corynebacterium diphtheriae</i> NCTC 13129 and <i>Corynebacterium diphtheriae</i> NCTC 13129 Δ<i>dtxR</i> were used in this study. The first strain derived from the National Collection of Tissue Cultures which is operated by Public Health England (Salisbury, United Kingdom). The strain number in this culture collection is NCTC 13129. The second strain derived from the first strain via deletion of the gene <i>dtxR</i>.
