: This study used on-field data and fin clips collected by the breeding compagny « Viviers de Sarrance » as part of their commercial breeding program. Fish were reared at the French farm « Les Viviers de Sarrance » (Pisciculture Labedan, 64490 Sarrance, France) under conditions complying with the Directive 98/58/CE on the protection of animals kept for farming purposes. Article 1.5 in the EU Directive 2010/63/ EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes excludes practices undertaken for the purposes of recognised animal husbandry and identification from the scope covered by the Directive 2010/63/ EU. As such, the project was not subjected to oversight by an institutional ethic committee.
