: According to the Animal Welfare Act of New Zealand, insects are not defined as animals. Therefore, the collection of BMSB for this study does not require ethics approval. The collections were not on private land, no specific permits were required for sample collections. All BMSB specimens imported into New Zealand were in accordance to the Import Health Standard, Section 22 of the Biosecurity Act 1993.
