: Experimental procedures and animal care were conducted in compliance with the European Communities Council Directive 2010/63/EU. The protocol and procedures were approved by the French Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (authorization APAFIS#1847-2015092213418825v2). The experiment was conducted at the Ducks and Goose Experimental Facility – INRAE, UEPFG, (Benquet, France) that received the accreditation number B40–037-1. Euthanasia of newly hatched ducklings was carried out in accordance with the AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals: 2020 Edition. This study was conducted and is reported in accordance with the ARRIVE guidelines.
