: This study used deidentified liver tissue samples and data obtained from deceased individuals. As per the regulations outlined in 45 CFR 46.101 (b) [], the current study falls under Exemption 4, and does not require additional Institutional review board approval. The need for approval was waived by the Thomas Jefferson University Institutional review board. A Certification for Protected Health Information of Decedents for Research was obtained from the Privacy Officer of the Office of University Counsel and Corporate Compliance Department of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH) for the use of deidentified data in this study. The informed consent was obtained by the Gift of Life Foundation from the deceased donor`s next of kin to collect liver biopsy samples for research purposes.
