: In the present work, the experimental procedures complied with current laws on animal welfare and research in China and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (8th edition), were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of Nanjing Normal University [SYXK (Jiangsu) 2020–0047, IACUC-20220258]. All of the <i>G. japonicus</i> were captured alive at night in the villages, which were not privately owned or protected. No specific permits were required for the described field studies. The sampling methods adhered to ARRIVE guidelines and regulations for the handling and sampling of geckos. The authors confirmed that animals did not suffer unnecessarily at any stage of experiments in this study.
