Declarations
:
: The samples used in this study were previously published by our team in a microsatellite-based study of African cattle genetic diversity during the early 1990s and 2000s, as detailed by MacHugh et al. 26, Hanotte et al. 27, Troy et al. 28 and Freeman et al. 29. The animal sampling was conducted before the establishment of formal Institutional Permission requirements in Ireland, which align with the European Union Directive 2010/63/EU. We took all necessary measures to ensure the ethical treatment of the animal subjects.
