: Informed consent was obtained from all participants and/or their legal guardian(s) before enrolment in the Tuberculosis and Diabetes (TAD) study. The TAD study was approved by the School of Biomedical Sciences Research and Ethics Committee (SBS-REC), Makerere University (reference number: SBS-398), and the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) (reference number: HS66ES). Ethical approval for this nested study was granted by SBS-REC, reference number SBS-2021-41, and UNCST, reference number HS1696ES.
