Ethics approval and consent to participate
: In this study, fish from fisheries and aquaculture were used for dissection of the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, fish were sacrificed by state-of-the-art humane killing (American Veterinary Medical Association, Canadian Council of Animal Care in Science). The experiments were carried out in accordance with the European Directive 2010/63/EU and the Animal Welfare Legislation (§ 8 Abs.1) of the Ministry of Energy, Agriculture, the Environment and Rural Areas Schleswig–Holstein (Germany). Based on this, the experiment was approved by the Ethics committee of Kiel University.
