: The study was conducted in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and the International Council on Harmonization Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice. Ethical approval was obtained from the research ethics review board of the Institute of Health, Jimma University, according to the protocol of (IRB000/48/2020). A permission letter was obtained from the Jimma Medical Center Administration Office and the ART Clinic coordinator. Written informed consent and assent was obtained from study participants and parents or caregivers respectively. Additionally, positive results for <i>Salmonella</i> and <i>Shigella</i> were reported to the physicians assigned to the ART clinic where they received treatment. All information obtained from this study was kept confidential at all levels and utilized only for the study.
