: The animal used in this study is not subject to the Philippine Department of Agriculture Administrative Order 40 S.1999 pursuant to the Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, and the approval of UP Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee was not required. The animal is listed as endangered in the IUCN Red List and is regulated for collection and trade by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources through Administrative Circular 248 S.2013 but a permit to collect for scientific purposes was granted for the project. The animals used in this study were produced in the hatchery following induced spawning of broodstock collected from wild populations. Broodstock were returned to its natural habitat, thus natural populations of the animals were not adversely affected by the study in adherence to the IUCN Policy Statement on Research Involving Species at Risk of Extinction. The animals were not anaesthetized but were dissected promptly using a scalpel and without causing unnecessary harm to the animal. Clinical trial number is not applicable.
