: The study is not a clinical trial. The gastric biopsies were obtained by endoscopy from the patients visiting the Department of Gastroenterology of Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial (STNM) Hospital, Sikkim. Written informed consents were obtained from all the enrolled patients. The study was approved by the Institutional Human Ethics Committee of the STNM Hospital (04/18-C/STNMH/19) and Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (IHEC/1/2018/12; RGCB/IHEC/250/2023/08). Both these committees were transparent, independent, and there were no conflicts of interest. In agreement with the Helsinki declaration, our study was reviewed on scientific and ethical grounds and approved by both the above mentioned committees independently. The patients were made aware of the study and a written informed consents were obtained from each of the enrolled patients. The clinical procedures were carried out by the gastroenterologist. The study was then carried out using genomic DNA isolated at the Microbiome laboratory at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology.
