Declarations
:
: Permissions were obtained to collect water samples both in private residences and in the hospital setting. All participants provided informed consent to contribute water samples from their households to the study. Genomic investigation of environmental and clinical NTM isolates was approved by the ethics committees of the University Hospital Frankfurt (ethical vote 2022–162) and University of Lübeck (ethical vote 2024–608). Informed patient consent was not required as clinical NTM strains were isolated during routine clinical diagnostics or were already publicly available. Informed consent was therefore waived by the Institutional Review board of the University of Lübeck, ethical vote 2024–608. Data processing complied with the European General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and §27 of the Bundesdatenschutzgesetz (BDSG). The study has been conducted in accordance with the principles of the Helsinki Declaration.
