: All procedures were approved by the Regierungspräsidium Oberbayern (VET 02-21-201), Landesamt für Gesundheit und Soziales (LAGeSo Berlin) (G 0225/16) at the Freie Universität Berlin. Adult male birds were acquired from Magnolia Bird Farm with informed consent. All maintenance and experimental procedures of adult birds were performed according to the guidelines established by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at New York University Langone Medical Center. Song and neural data recordings from adult birds were performed in New York University Langone Medical Center. Data from adult birds was previously used in a publication Vallentin and Long [ ] addressing a different research question. Juvenile male birds were acquired from the local zebra finch breeding colony in Max-Planck-Institute for Biological Intelligence, Seewiesen. All experiments involving juvenile birds were performed in Max-Planck-Institute for Biological Intelligence in Seewiesen.
