: All plant samples used in the study were collected from natural habitats and none of them were listed as nationally key protected plant species. According to national and local legislation, no specific permission was required for collecting these plants. Specimens of Ascarina and Hedyosmum (excluding H. orientale) were authenticated by Taylor S. Feild, while the remaining samples were identified by Qiang Zhang. Voucher specimens have been deposited in the Herbarium of Guangxi Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IBK).
